This two-day CLE is an immersion into the Dependency System. Day Two will focus on Effective Advocacy for Parents involved in the Dependency System. Our Guest Speakers will discuss Defending against a finding of dependency; reasonable efforts - what does this mean, what are the agencies responsibilities and how the parent attorney can utilize "reasonable efforts" in representing the parent; how to help before you get to the courtroom, scrutinizing the "Family Service Plan", overview of resources available to assist the parent, helping the parent advocate for themselves and create a plan for the return of the child home or maintaining physical custody of the child in the home; how to create a pro-active/action plan to present to Court regarding the reunification or preservation of the family unit and what to do if a case is headed to Termination of Parental Rights. Day 2 will conclude with a panel discussion on the Best Practices for effective advocacy and duties of confidentiality as set forth in the Rules of Professional Conduct.
