"There Ought to be a Law"
Twenty-two aspiring filmmakers, actors and actresses from Miss Grassi's 3rd Grade class at Roberts Elementary School in Wayne, PA were on hand for the December 1st Board of Directors Meeting of the Montgomery Bar to accept their $1,000 Grand Prize from the 2009 'Ought to be a Law YouTube Contest. The class has decided that half of their prize money will be donated to Project H.O.M.E., a charity they selected, according to their teacher. Two Norristown Area H.S students also took home Grand Prize honors in the Under 18 category for a video aimed at the dangers of texting while driving. The contest has fast become an annual favorite of the MBA's Community Outreach Committee and amateur filmmakers of all ages.
In addition to the announcement of Grand Prize and Runner-Up winners, MBA President Mark Kearney delivered a special announcement on behalf of Heidi Markow whose simple, yet compelling video about domestic abuse earned her this year's People's Choice honors. In a letter written by Markow and read before 60+ attendees, Kearney announced her prize money will help her organization, The Beginning Over Foundation, launch its "Kimberlee's Childrens Fund" -- a fund established in honor of Kimberlee Carl Godshall who lost her life at the hands of domestic abuse in 2002.
