Attorneys and Businesses Score Big for Legal Aid
The Montgomery Bar Association’s 2008 Legal Aid Golf Classic was held on Tuesday, July 8 at RiverCrest Golf Club & Preserve in Oaks, PA. With matching funds provided by the Bar Association, Montgomery County attorneys and local businesses raised $20,000 to support Legal Aid, which will lose over $100,000 this year due to the drop in interest rates. Legal Aid delivers legal services to low-income people, victims of domestic abuse and the elderly in our area.
The Golf Classic began with a shotgun start at 8 am and lasted until about noon, with some players opting to take golf lessons instead. A buffet lunch and awards ceremony followed, where tee, hole and event sponsors, including premium sponsors Wisler Pearlstine, the Legal Intelligencer, and Canon Business Solutions, were personally thanked by MBA President Robert F. Morris. The winning golfers for the longest drive, the straightest drive, closest to the pin, and the first place scramble team were also announced, and raffle tickets were sold to the golfers to win a variety of prizes such as gift cards to restaurants and retail establishments.
The Legal Aid Golf Classic, organized annually by the Montgomery Bar Association, is one of the many events held by the Bar Association each year to help those less fortunate in our area. All proceeds, including player and sponsor fees and raffle ticket sales, will benefit Legal Aid of Southeastern Pennsylvania.
