Two Longtime Montgomery Bar Members Honored With
Pennsylvania Legal Aid Network Excellence Awards

Harrisburg - The Pennsylvania Legal Aid Network (PLAN) presented its 2014 PLAN Excellence Awards to two longtime, active members of the Montgomery Bar Association, the Honorable Stewart J. Greenleaf and Harvey F. Strauss, Esq during its annual awards dinner on Tuesday, March 18, 2014.  Greenleaf was honored for his work and service as Pennsylvania State Senator and as Chair of the Senate Judiciary Committee.  Greenleaf is also a senior shareholder with the Elliott Greenleaf law firm in Blue Bell. Strauss, recently retired, was recognized for his decades of work as Co-Director of Legal Aid of Southeastern Pennsylvania.

According to a press release issued by PLAN, the Excellence Awards recognize Legal Aid attorneys, paralegals, support staff and friends of civil legal aid who support the clients served by the civil legal programs that comprise the Pennsylvania Legal Aid Network.  PLAN solicited nominations from across the Commonwealth and based its selection on a variety of criteria that demonstrated excellence and diligence in helping improve the availability and quality of civil legal services for low income people and victims of domestic violence in Pennsylvania.

Other 2014 PLAN Excellence Award recipients included Linda L. Timberlake, Esq. of MidPenn Legal Services; Paralegal Kenneth N. Try of McNerney, Page, Vanderlin & Hall; the Honorable John Uhler, Court of Common Pleas of York County; Robert Woods, Executive Director of the United Way of York County; John S. Whitelaw, Esq. of Community Legal Services and Merril L. Zebe, Esq., Public Interest Coordinator for the Philadelphia Bar Association. Chief Justice Ronald D. Castille of the Pennsylvania Supreme Court and Yvette R. Long, a disability and welfare rights advocate with the Pennsylvania Welfare Rights organization were also among those honored, both receiving the Outstanding Leadership in Support of Legal Services Award.

Samuel W. Milkes, Executive Director of the Pennsylvania Legal Aid Network, Inc. adds, “The work of the Pennsylvania Legal Aid Network is honorable and vitally important as more of our residents require civil legal assistance in resolving critical problems involving such basic needs as shelter, healthcare, income and personal safety. The annual awards banquet provides the opportunity to applaud these individuals, who everyday give those who have nowhere else to turn, equal access to justice.”
