YOUNG LAWYERS SECTION UPDATE - 10.10.14

1. Fall Community Service Project - Clothing Drive w/ Dress for Success

For the next month we will be collecting your slightly used women’s professional clothing in coordination with the Dress for Success program.  This program provides suiting apparel to women interviewing and applying for new jobs.  You can, and should, read more about their efforts here:  www.dressforsuccess.org.  So use this as a great chance to (1) clean out your closet and make room for a new fall wardrobe; and (2) help out a great cause and know somebody out there is feeling more confident applying for a job because they have a suit on their back.

Donations can be made until the Legal Expo (November 19) at the Bar Association Building or at any of the following law firms which were gracious enough to help us coordinate this:  (1)Elliot Greenleaf & Siedzikowski; (2)Fox Rothschild; (3) Hamburg, Rubin, Mullin, Maxwell & Lupin; (4) Kane, Pugh, Knoell, Troy & Kramer; and (5) Kaplin Stewart.

Lastly on this point, if you would like to volunteer your office to be an additional collection point, please e-mail me directly at wroark@hrmml.com.

2. Next Year’s Chair and Vice Chair

After talking amongst themselves, and clearing it with the Bar Association’s leadership, next year’s chair and vice chair have decided to switch positions.  Colin O’Boyle will be serving as the chair in 2015 and Lindette Hassan’s “reign of terror” will be postponed until 2016.  This obviously has nothing to do with giving Lindette time to enjoy being a mom and is 100% because Colin loves mock trials and is eager to run that ship.

3. Applications for Next Year’s Officer Positions

As announced at our previous meeting we are accepting applications for two officer positions this year.  Both the position of secretary and treasurer need to be filled.  For those that don’t know yet, the way the system works is each year the officer moves up, from secretary, treasurer, vice chair, and then in their fourth year become the chair.  The chair of the young lawyers section is typically invited to serve a term as a board member on the Bar Association Board of Directors.  It’s as awesome as it sounds – trust me.

For those that are interested in applying to become an officer, please submit a one page letter explaining a little bit about why you believe you are qualified, but more importantly what you would do as an officer and what ideas you would bring to the section as a leader.  You can e-mail the application letter directly to me at wroark@hrmml.com .  All applications must be received by 5 PM on October 31 in order to have the selection into the bar nominating committee in time.
