Volunteers Needed for MLK Day of Service - Monday, January 20th
MLK Day of Service

The MBA Young Lawyers Section (YLS) is once again participating in the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. National Day of Service on Monday, January 20, 2020. This is an annual project for the YLS and a wonderful opportunity to give back to our community. All members are welcome. There will be two half-day projects:

  • Interfaith Housing Alliance (31 South Spring Garden Street, Ambler) - 10 AM - 2 PM - The Interfaith Housing Alliance provides emergency and transitional shelter to families with children, along with emergency food relief and intensive case management and support services. Service projects will include, among other things: cleaning and repurposing an on-site recreation area; cleaning, organizing, painting apartments, common space or office areas on site; and organizing and managing donations. Family members (including teens and children over the age of 10) are welcome to participate. We are particularly in need of volunteers for this project!!

  • Wissahickon Valley Boys & Girls Club (250 West Maple Avenue, Ambler) - 12 PM - 3 PM – The Boys and Girls Club offers recreational, afterschool, and summer activities to young people, particularly those in need. Activities will include putting together furniture, organizing games and supplies, and prepping crafts and snacks.  Family members (including teens and children – there will be projects involving painting rocks and decorating bulletin boards for school-aged children) are welcome to participate.

If you would like to volunteer for MLK Day, please contact YLS Volunteer Coordinator, Jennifer Whitehurst at or 610-519-7228. Please advise if you prefer one event over the other. Otherwise, we will assign you to a location based upon need. PLEASE

PLEASE NOTE: You do not need to stay for the duration of either project, just let us know your availability in advance so we can make sure each location is adequately staffed.

Robert E. Slota, Jr. Summer 1L Diversity Program - Now Seeking Hosts and Sponsors for 2020!
Summer 1L Diversity Program

As President Kurtas discussed at Friday’s Annual Business Luncheon, the MBA places high priority on the success of its diversity initiatives. The cornerstone of our diversity program is the Robert E. Slota, Jr. Summer 1L Diversity Program and we are about to kick in high gear to make it the most successful year yet. In order to make that happen, we need YOUR participation! Opportunities for support include hosting a highly-qualified diverse intern throughout the 8-week program, splitting the internship with another firm (each firm hosting for 4-weeks), sponsoring the program, covering the cost of hosting an intern working for one of our judges or other public interest attorneys, and/or helping to recruit qualified applicants. Please contact Nancy Walsh (; 215-896-6970) for more information on how you can help. Don’t miss the opportunity to be a part of this important program!

In addition to its Summer 1L Program, the Diversity Committee has many exciting plans for 2020 and is now recruiting new committee members to help bring those plans to life. Please consider joining the first meeting of the year, tomorrow at noon.  Click Here to register!
